Biosafety Town Hall: Implementing the New Federal Policy on High-Risk Life Sciences Research

November 20, 2026 | 12 p.m. | Online via Zoom

A new U.S. government policy on high-risk life sciences research, the United States Government Policy for Stopping High-Risk Life Sciences Research, takes full effect for research institutions in January. By January 16, 2027, every institution that receives federal life sciences funding must have an Institutional Review Entity, a designated Institutional Contact for Dangerous Gain-of-Function Research, researcher training, and institutional implementation policies in place. This town hall will ask the Pitt research community for feedback on how the University should implement the new policy. Researchers, laboratory staff, and research administrators are encouraged to attend.
